The  Corporate Event Music Handbook is a resource created by me, Zach Barnhorst, to help you make money doing what you love!

Who am I and how do I know about this stuff?

I am a musician, surfer, entrepreneur, and general creative type from San Diego, CA.  After spending 10 years as a recording engineer in Los Angeles I decided to get out of the subterranean studios of Hollywood and move back to my home town of San Diego.  The skill that had initially gotten me into being a recording engineer was being a musician.  And life is a cyclical path if nothing else, so when I got back to San Diego I thought I would start playing music at little bars and restaurants to scratch together a living while pursuing a number of business ventures.

As any musician knows, the early days of working the coffee shop and bar scene can be a grind and the owners of these small businesses generally don’t have big budgets for entertainment.  But I kept hearing about these mythical “Corporate Event” gigs that paid real money.  I also knew that weddings were a great revenue stream.  I started there, playing weddings for friends for free, but having strangers come up after and tell me that they had a wedding coming up and could I play for them.  I always said “Yes”, but charged my full rate!

Once my skills were up to par I got laser focused on Corporate events and this really allowed me to turn the corner on making money playing music.  I’ve been playing corporate events and weddings now for over a decade and my goal is to let you in on the tricks of the trade so that you too can turn your passion into a profitable side gig or a full time living.
